Scouting is a Youth Shaped movement and has been since the days of Baden Powell and his book Scouting for boys. However much has changed since the days of Baden Powell the fundamentals are the same.
The Scout Association reinforced this in Vision 2018 which saw the introduction of Youth Commissioners designed to drive the Youth Shaped movement forward.
Greater Manchester North’s County Youth Commissioner is Ryan Murphy and has been in role since 2015. Ryan is currently developing the team and actively promoting Youth Shaped Scouting by supporting Districts and Groups incorporate this into the programme. One way this is happening is Forums. Youth forums are a great way to get young people to have their say in what they would like to do.
There are currently Youth Forums taking place across the County. The County Youth Team is currently supporting all sections to set up valuable Youth Forum.
Ryan has had the opportunity to take part in National Youth Forums where the idea for #weartheirnecker came from. This initiative gives our young people the chance to become their leader and get a feel of what they do.
Hopefully, encouraging them to continue in the movement, develop ideas to improve Scouting for all and become Young Leaders/Leaders themselves.
