January 2012 - New County Commissioner Appointed
Scouts
at the Conservative Party Conference
National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra
Formed in 1976 the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra meets once a year for a week long intensive course followed usually by two concerts. Players have to apply annually for places and have a standard of at least Grade 5. The orchestra occasionally gives additonal performances both in the UK and abroad and has made recordings including in 2007, 'The Great Adventure' A Scouting Centenary Symphony by Rodney Newton. This year for the second time Isobel played in the orchestras violin section. In addtion to her parents and family, the County Commissioner attended the concerts which included Borodins 2nd Symphony, Brahms Academic Festival overture, some Delius, part of the Great Adventure and concluded with the rousing Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 by Elgar. The whole evening was spectacular and it was a great pleasure to be able to hear one of our own Scouts play. If anyone else is interested in applying to join the orchestra the application process begins in October each year and the information is released on the Scout Associations web site. |
